The Cambridge Salon Winter Auction 2025
The Cambridge Salon began, as many good things do, with an unexpected collaboration between two creatives, Helen Orr and Katherine Leckie, and their strong belief that every skilled artwork, literarily creation or musical piece carries within it a kind of sacrament: creation out of nothing, echoing the primal moment when the void became light. Whether or not one has a belief in the transcendent, they believe that all human creativity echoes the biblical creation story where God said “Let there be light.” When art becomes spectacle - which for much of the late 20th and early 21st century it has - it ceases to be sacramental. It loses its connection to awe, wonder, and the divine spark that once animated it. Great art stands the test of time because it reconnects us to something deeper. In a world where AI can generate images endlessly, it feels more vital than ever to honour works made by real hands, real souls, real lives. That is what The Cambridge Salon is being built for: a metaphysical, sacramental, yet thoroughly human space of creativity. A place of people and ideas, fine wine and good coffee, debates and conversations, book launches, private views, classes and concerts. A cultural house that will live both online and in person. The Salon is both small and expansive — a room, a community, an online home, a gathering of minds and souls. We are using a new auction technology created by a visionary friend — a model where everyone wins – to raise funds for expanding both the community spaces, the events we host and artists we promote.
